Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment which has been used for many years. A small liquid (called sclerosing solution) is injected into the tiny thread veins. It immediately starts to work on the inner surface of the veins and triggers your body's natural healing to cause them to seal up and fade with time. There is no danger to your general health from the disappearance of the treated veins as the blood re-routes its path through the healthy veins. Series of treatments may be required to achieve optimal results.

The use of ultrasound helps improve results of sclerotherapy and allows treatment of larger varicose veins under the skin. Prairie Face and Vein Clinic offers Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) – the sclerosant injection is done into the skin whilst being monitored in real time on the ultrasound screen.

Downtime from this treatment is minimal and you may return to work same day or next. Compression wrap is applied for a few days after treatment to keep the internal surfaces of the treated vein together so it can seal up quicker.
